There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps fixtures from Wincanton, Fontwell and Stratford, whilst there is an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  David has two runners today as both Ranco and Sans Logique contest the 1m4f flat handicap at Wolverhampton at 5.20pm.  Ranco took a step in the right direction last time, finishing fourth behind a couple of useful sorts.  He travelled well that day but was caught in a pocket on the home bend.  Callum Hutchinson is on board and claims a useful 7lbs off his back.  Sans Logique also produced a better effort last time when third at Southwell last time and he is 4lbs lower this afternoon.  Dougie Costello takes the ride and it would be no surprise to see either of our runners outrun their big prices.

Iron Heart ran a solid race in the valuable juvenile handicap hurdle at Ascot yesterday afternoon, finishing seventh, but he was beaten only six lengths.  He was staying on in the closing stages in this competitive contest and there are clearly more races to be won with him.

England maintained their winning start to their World Cup qualifying campaign by beating Albania 2-0.  Their opponents provided more of a test than San Marino earlier last week, but things will get much harder for England when they take on Poland at Wembley on Wednesday.

Neil Robertson produced snooker from the gods to win the Cazoo Tour Championship, beating Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-4 in the final.  The pair were locked together at 4-4 entering the evening session but the Australian took O'Sullivan to school, winning all six frames to land a decisive victory.  Robertson can be absolutely unplayable at times and he will be tough to beat in the World Championship next month if he can replicate this form.

Some things never change...Lewis Hamilton won the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix yesterday, but there is some good news for fans of the sport as Red Bull seem to have a car that can challenge Mercedes' dominance, something that has not happened in the last seven years.  Indeed, Max Verstappen was unlucky not to win as a combination of poor pit strategy and the race directors' intervention cost him victory.  The Mercedes team had consistently run wide beyond track limits at turn 4 throughout the race without problem but when Verstappen was instructed to do the same by his team, race officials decided this was illegal.  When Verstappen did actually pass Hamilton on track (at, you guessed it, turn 4) he was ordered to give the place back.  Talk about making it up as you go along!  Still, it was an entertaining race and bodes well for the rest of the season.

An man was given a job painting white lines down the middle of the road.  On his first day he painted six miles of tarmac; on the second day, he did three miles; and on the third day, he painted less than a mile.
The foreman was not pleased.  "How come you're doing less each day?" he demanded.
"Because each day I keep getting further away from the can of paint!"
