Today there is one jumps meeting at Exeter and flat cards at Pontefract, Bath and Chelmsford but the stable does not have any runners with the ground being on the quick side at our local track.  Fingers crossed there is some rain in the forecast soon as everywhere is drying out at the moment and it would be really nice to get a good finish to the season and have lots of runners on some genuine good ground.   Racing gets underway at 1.45pm at Exeter.  Harry Skelton has five rides this afternoon while Brian Hughes is not riding today so Harry will be hoping to get a winner or two on the board in the very close jockey's championship.

I hope everyone enjoyed a good Easter Monday and enjoyed watching the racing action, especially from Fairyhouse where there was a surprise winner of the Irish Grand National.  Freewheelin Dylan let the field a merry dance all the way under jockey Ricky Doyle and was not for passing and ran out a 150/1 miracle winner!  He became the biggest-priced Irish National winner ever for trainer Dermot McLoughlin.  I think this is one of the main beauties of our sport in that it is a race and anything can happen and anyone can win.  We can all dream that our in-expensive horse can live with the 'big boys' and provide fairly tale results like we had yesterday.

This morning we are declaring for the first day of Aintree on Thursday.  We have two entries and both will be declared, Umbrigado in the Manifesto novices chase and Adagio in the four year old hurdle.  I do love the Aintree meeting, every day is packed with top class races and there is so much to look forward to.  Yesterday saw the confirmation stage for the big race itself, the Grand National.  68 of the 77 entries were confirmed and there were not many withdrawals.  Vieux Lion Rouge at present will carry the number 28 number cloth but of course this may change with final declarations being on Thursday morning.  In my experience this is not likely to change much.  Original entries for this great race were made in early February and usually if your still  left in the race at this stage then the plan is to run.  There will be a nervous wait for the Evan Williams team and their horse Secret Reprieve.  The Welsh National winner is quite fancied in the betting but is currently number 43 on the race list so is not guaranteed to get a run.  There is an article in today's Racing Post and the trainer seems quite philosophical about the situation.  He says that come Thursday they will take their medicine either way which is the best way to be as there is not a lot you can do about the situation but hope!  On the other hand there is only one Grand National!
