        Nordic Combined runs at Kelso

There are three jumps meetings today at Fontwell, Kelso and Uttoxeter and we have travelled to the course furthest away from Pond House….Kelso!!  It does seem a little strange that there are no flat meetings in the UK today.  In Ireland there is a flat meeting at Navan and a jumps meeting at Punchestown.  We have three runners up at Kelso, Gwencily Berbas, Nordic Combined and First Lord Du Cuet and Fergus Gillard is on board all three.  Gwencily Berbas made a pleasing stable debut last time out at Ffos Las finishing third.  He has cheek pieces added this afternoon and if he can build on the promise of his stable debut then hopefully he should not be too far away again.

Nordic Combined runs for the David Pipe Racing Club in the two mile handicap hurdle at 3.07pm.  He was a winner at Hexham on his penultimate start and ran well in hotter competition in the Swinton hurdle at Haydock last time.  This again looks competitive but Nordic seems in good form at home and fingers crossed he can run well again.

First Lord Du Cuet is the final runner of our trio and runs in the novices handicap chase at 4.17pm.  He made a pleasing chasing debut at Hexham where he finished second but was not helped by some novicey jumping on the way round.  A visor replaces his usual blinkers and he has been schooling well since his last run and this looks a good opportunity for him to hopefully gain his first win over the larger obstacles.

It seems funny that we have had the wettest May we have ever recorded at Pond House this month and yet with just a few dry days they ground is already drying out everywhere and the racecourses are already having to water again!  It is not easy being a clerk of the course or a trainer!

What do you get when you cross a snowman with a vampire?  Frostbite!  Have a good Sunday!
