Ranco runs at Newton Abbot this Evening

It is a busy day on the racing front with four flat meetings at Sandown, Chepstow, York & Goodwood plus two jumps meetings this evening at Aintree and Newton Abbot.  In Ireland there is jumping at Clonmel and flat racing at Fairyhouse.  David has three runners today, Ranco at Newton Abbot and two at Aintree, Koi Dodville and Nordic Combined.  The Racing Post has Ranco down has favourite for the 6pm handicap hurdle over 2 miles and Jack Tudor, claiming three is on board.  He ran well in his first handicap at Worcester last time out to finish a close fourth and the tighter track and even quicker ground should suit him even better tonight.  He is a three time flat winner who is looking for his first success over jumps and we are hopeful of a good run.

Up at Aintree, Koi Dodville runs in the 6.15pm juvenile hurdle with Tom Scu in the saddle.  He seems to have come out of his Hexham run the other day well but does have a penalty to carry this evening.  We have added blinkers to help him concentrate a bit more and providing his trip up North last weekend has not taken more out of him than we think he looks to have a good chance.  He is such a straight forward little horse who loves eating and as enjoyed some time out in the field over the last few days as well and hopefully he can justify his favourtism and put his experience to good use to win again.

Our second runner of the evening is Nordic Combined in the 7.25pm handicap hurdle over two miles.  We have a jockey change from original declarations with Tom Scu replacing the injured Fergus Gillard.  Fergus should not be out of action for too long but is having a few restful days after getting a cut to his head that required stitching in a fall at Fontwell on Wednesday.  Nordic Combined has been called a few names in the past but he has been in terrific consistent form of late.  His last five starts have yielded a win, three seconds and a seventh in the Swinton hurdle.  It was a good performance behind a well handicapped rival at Kelso last time out and although this race competitive, a similar runs should see him there abouts once again.

Just a quick comment on race planning, it does seem a bit strange to have two evening jumps fixture tonight?  Surely, one afternoon and one evening might have been better? Just a thought!

Story of Friends is also hitching a ride on the Aintree lorry as we are heading on up to Hexham after this evening and he runs up there tomorrow.  Leoncavallo runs on the flat at Sandown tomorrow as well so check back here in the morning for more news.

The football Euro 2020 tournament kicks off this evening and the first game is Turkey versus Italy at 8pm in Rome.  I know Jack Pipe has drawn Italy in his school sweepstake so I am hoping they will get off to a winning start this evening!

The cashier told me "Strip down facing me".  By the time I realised they meant the debit card it was too late"!  Have a good day.
