Today we have Royal Ascot as the feature meeting once again and it is supported by three flat cards at Ripon, Chelmsford and Lingfield and there is also jumps racing at Ffos Las this evening.  In Ireland there is a flat card at Leopardstown.  The stable does not have any runners.  There was the threat of significant rain everywhere overnight and this morning but it seems Ascot, like us have missed any significant amount.  We had 2mm here at Pond House, just enough to dampen the dust!  At Ascot the ground remains good to firm as they had 2.4mm of rainfall overnight.  Originally forecast anything between 5mm and 28mm they didn't even reach their lowest prediction.  These thundery showers are always very localised and it just shows how localised when nearby Kempton recorded 5mm of rain and Sandown 9mm of rain overnight.  Everywhere still could get thundery showers this morning so we will just have to keep an eye on this as the morning progresses.

In yesterday's action, even though I went against her, I was delighted that Love won the Prince of Wales Stakes.  Ryan Moore gave her a lovely ride from the front and even though I wondered if she was in trouble as they turned up the home straight she galloped strongly to the line without the others really landing a blow.  She really is a wonderful top class filly and there are so many options for her going forwards.  MCP noticed her uncanny likeness to our former stable star Make A Stand in looks.  If you compare their faces they nearly are identical!  There was a bit of trouble in the last race of the day at Ascot yesterday and there were a few unhappy people, none more so that jockey Silvestre De Sousa who was furious after the starter let the race go while he had still not been able to remove the hood from his mount Stunning Beauty before the gates opened.  On the video you can clearly hear him asking the starter to wait but it appears the starter did not hear his calls and she was left standing in the stalls as the rest of the runners jumped out.  There was then a 30 minute wait as the stewards decided whether to call her a runner or not, they deemed her a runner which did not go down well with many and seems a little bizarre to me.  From what I was reading most bookmakers however refunded punters who had had a bet on her which is a nice gesture.

Stradivarius is the star name on show at Ascot today as he bids for his fourth Gold Cup.  His jockey, Frankie Dettori recorded his 75th Royal Ascot yesterday and he should add to that tally this afternoon.  The Gosden team will be delighted that the significant rain did not materialise and if he were to win he would equal the mighty Yeats who won this race four times in a row from 2006.  Although he perhaps had questionable form at the end of last season he returned with a great win in the Sagaro Stakes in April and I for one hope that he wins this afternoon.

There was a great win for Wales yesterday in the football as they beat Turkey 2-0 despite Gareth Bale missing a penalty.  This put them in a great position to qualify from the group.  In the other games Russia beat Finland 1-0 and Italy beat Switzerland 3-0.  Wales now play Italy in their final group game on Sunday.  Today's games are Ukraine versus North Macedonia at 2pm, Denmark versus Belgium at 5pm and the Netherlands take on Austria at 8pm.

A ten year old boy was stuck with his maths homework.  Grandad he pleaded, "can you help me with this?"  "I could" said his grandad but "that wouldn't be right would it?"  "I don't suppose it would be grandad" said the boy "but have a shot at it anyway!"  Have a nice day.
