There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Newmarket, Chester, Windsor and Doncaster as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle.  It's a blank day if you are a fan of the jumps, although we still have a runner today as Lady Reset (pictured above) contests the 1m2f fillies' handicap at Doncaster at 7.45pm.  She was a winner last time out and the runner-up has scored subsequently.  She has a good strike rate on the level and is partnered by Royal Ascot winning jockey Laura Pearson who takes a handy 5lbs off her back.  This is a tougher assignment than last time, but she remains 2lbs below her highest winning mark and her prospects will continue to improve if the ground dries throughout the day.

The big race of the day takes place in Ireland where it is the Irish Derby at the Curragh.  Aidan O'Brien's High Definition is the current favourite and may well be suited by this longer trip, but he was two lengths behind Hurricane Lane in the Dante and that one in turn finished behind Mojo Star when they were placed behind Adayar in the Derby at Epsom.  That suggests that there probably isn't an awful lot between them but High Definition is plenty short enough in the market with Hurricane Lane and Mojo Star at least three times his price.  They are off at 3.45pm and ITV will be covering it.

There is a big night of football ahead of us with Wales taking on Denmark tonight as they try to reach the quarter finals of the Euros.  They kick off at 5pm in Amsterdam and whilst Wales will be the underdogs, the lopsided nature of the draw means they could have been facing much stiffer competition and are not out of it by any means.  Previous history is only slightly against them with Wales winning four of their ten previous matches.

The qualifying takes place this afternoon for this weekend's Styrian Grand Prix in Austria.  Valterri Bottas is already on the back foot having been handed a three place grid penalty for spinning in the pits.  He continues to disappoint for Mercedes and it is surely only a matter of time before he is replaced by Brit, George Russell.  Championship leader Max Verstappen was fastest in his Red Bull in practice and he will be looking to put Mercedes to the sword with back-to-back races at their home track this weekend and next.

Apologies, I managed to get a day ahead of myself with the cricket yesterday!  The final match of the T20 series between England and Sri Lanka gets underway tonight, although I expect the result to be the same!

A lady was throwing out some old clothes for a charity shop when she reached into the pocket of one of her husband's old suits and discovered a shoe repair ticket.  She showed the ticket to her husband.
"This ticket must be 20 years old," he said.  "I must have forgotten to pick the shoes up.  The shop is still there, so I will take the ticket in and see if they still have my shoes."
So he went back to the shop and gave the ticket to the sales assistant who said, "They will ready on Thursday."
