There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat fixtures from Ripon and Epsom and jumps fixtures from Newton Abbot and Hexham.  David has two runners over the sticks today, but they are not at Newton Abbot.  Instead, the lorry makes the long trip up to Northumberland as Mr Tambourine Man and Miss M (pictured above) run at Hexham.  Mr Tambourine Man contests the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 5.45pm.  He made a promising start for the stable over hurdles when runner-up at Worcester and this trip looks likely to suit him and he has a solid chance under Tom Scudamore.

Miss M represents the David Pipe Racing Club in the 2m handicap hurdle at 6.45pm.  A dual winner last season, she looked much more like her old self last time, leading at the last but finding the 2m3f trip just too far.  The drop back in trip should help and she looks to hold solid each-way claims with Tom Scudamore in the saddle.

It is deadline day in the football transfer market and it looks like most of the blockbuster deals have been completed, although there are still rumours that Real Madrid are pursuing Mbappe.  He doesn't sound as sure however, stating that he is keen to play with newly acquired Lionel Messi at Paris St Germain.  Premier League clubs have spent close to a whopping £1 billion on players during the transfer window.

Andy Murray narrowly lost out in the first round of the US Open yesterday, despite playing his best tennis of the last four years, losing in five sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas.  The match was a bad tempered affair with Murray accusing his opponent of cheating by taking long bathroom breaks after the second and fourth sets.

I hired a handyman and gave him a list. When I got home only jobs 1, 3, and 5 were done. Turns out he only does odd jobs.
