A P McCoy continues riding in splendid form as he demonstrated yesterday with a treble at Cartmel yesterday and barring injury he is already well on course for an incredible sixteenth successive jockeys championship.  He really is a fantastic ambassador for our sport and always takes time out to pose for photographs and sign autographs for racing enthusiasts - I guess it makes signing easy when you are just known as "AP"!

I hear that racing pundit Eddie Freemantle is on his holidays in Ibiza.  I can't imagine for one minute that he is sat on a beach - more likely he is still in his jacket and long trousers.  Eddie sounds like he is turning into a grumpy old man as he is complaining about the price of a sun parasol and wants a refund as he still managed to get sunburnt...that has cheered me up no end this morning!

My wife is working today so I have the television controls all to myself.  I can envisage a nice afternoon watching golf and racing...does it really get much better than that?!  Following the first round of the British Open Thomas Bjorn is in the lead. Bjorn should have already won a major by now, let's just hope that he can keep it out of the bunkers this time!  His task will be no easy one however - the first round leader has only gone on to win once in the last ten years and that was Tiger Woods.  Talking of Tiger, I have a topical tip for you...Nomoreblondes in Haydock's 2.20pm race!

Rory McIlroy seems to have steadied his nerves a bit after a shakey start and finished the day at +1 (6 shots behind the leader) - it seems to me that the winner of our Open doesn't ever go on to achieve an awful lot, so perhaps it is best that young Rory doesn't win this one?!
