There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Newmarket and York, an all-weather flat card from Chelmsford City and jumps fixtures from Hexham and Chepstow.  The best of the action comes from Newmarket where it is Dewhurst day.  The Group 1 seven furlong contest for two year old colts often decides who will be crowned champion juvenile and whist not an original shout, Native Trail has looked an absolute beast in three starts for the Godolphin team, winning at the top level last time by 3½l and I would be very surprised if he lost his unbeaten record here.

Vieux Lion Rouge finished seventh in the veteran's chase at Chepstow yesterday afternoon, finding things all happening a bit quickly on the drying ground.  Despite plenty of rain last week, they have had a dry spell at the Welsh track and it is amazing how quickly it can dry out and he is clearly a much better horse on a soft surface.

David does not have any runners today, although we will be back with a couple at Newton Abbot tomorrow, including the popular Ramses de Teillee.  The ground at the Devon track should not be an issue with the official going description currently soft.

Wales managed to get a 2-2 draw from their World Cup qualifying match against the Czech Republic last night, leaving them level with their rivals in their group with a game in hand.

Qualifying continues tonight with England facing Andorra.  Meanwhile the Republic Of Ireland take on Azerbaijan and Scotland host Israel.  Let's hope for a good night for the home nations.

Lewis Hamilton topped the practice times for this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix yesterday but is facing a ten place grid penalty for using replacement parts on his engine.  He will no doubt be in a strong position to score points, but is faces the prospect of losing ground to Max Verstappen in the championship standings.

Emma Raducanu lost her first match since claiming the US Open championship at the Indian Wells tournament yesterday.  She lost in straight sets to Aliaksandra Sasnovich who is ranked 100 in the world.  Although she seems a level-headed type, this early reality check may be just what the doctor ordered to remind to keep grafting.

I’ve been telling people about the benefit of eating dried grapes,

it’s all about raisin awareness.
