There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card from Catterick, an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle and jumps meetings from Bangor and Chepstow.  David has one runner today as Jewari Of Saints (pictured above) contests the 2m3½f handicap hurdle at Chepstow at 4.50pm.  The wide-margin winner of a claimer at Dieppe on her penultimate start, she was below-par on her British debut at Worcester but hopefully a wind operation in the interim will bring about an improved performance today.  A reproduction of her French form would give her each-way chances at a decent price with Philip Armson in the saddle.

The big horses in training sales at Newmarket got underway yesterday with a catalogue of over 1,500 horses going under the hammer.  As always, David has been going through the formbook meticulously looking for value and some potential stars.  If you would like to get involved, do give our office a bell on 01884 840715.

There is EFL Cup action tonight with a couple of all-Premiership matches to look forward to.  Arsenal take on Leeds United, whilst Chelsea host Southampton.  Whilst on paper these should be comfortable home wins, much will depend on the importance placed on the cup by the managers and the starting line-ups they put out.  History suggests that the scorelines should be much closer than perhaps anticipated.

There was to be no joy for Scotland in the T20 world cup cricket yesterday as they were bowled out for just 60 as they chased down a total of 190 against Afghanistan.  There should be an altogether higher quality match today between Pakistan and New Zealand.  It promises to be a real cracker between two of the best limited overs teams in the world and I wouldn't like to pick a winner.
