David flies over to Ireland this morning to saddle our two runners, Qulinton (Conor O'Farrell) and Matuhi (Hadden Frost) in the Galway Plate at 5.25pm. Both of them won nice prizes last time out and should perform creditably. The horses left on Monday and arrived safe and sound and have settled in well - they were joined on the journey by David's first Irish winner, Street Entertainer who runs in the Galway Hurdle tomorrow - Conor will ride him.
What a race we have to look forward to at 3.10pm at Goodwood today. While there are four runners, it looks to be all about the big two, the much anticipated match between star three year old Frankel and champion older horse, Canford Cliffs. The big question in my mind is how will they ride Frankel? Will they let him bowl along from the off or try to hold him up? He has always looked bit keen to me and he could fight for his head, so I think the race could be set up for Canford Cliffs. Richard Hughes will be holding Canford Cliffs up for a late run and use his electric turn of foot - I think he can concede 8lbs and become the first horse to beat Frankel.
I realise that by siding with him I am in the same corner as David, but I remain undeterred! The race has certainly captured the imagination - Tom Scudamore and head lad Eddie Buckley tell me that they think Frankel will win (although Eddie supports Manchester United so he is not a great judge!), while James in our office doesn't think that there is a horse on the planet that can give Frankel 8lbs and a beating over a mile - we will see this afternoon and I for one, can't wait!
