Colder again this morning with temperatures dipping below freezing and a light frost on the ground, but at least it is dry for those working in the yard and riding out.  There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Catterick and Wincanton and all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Kempton.  Following the recent dry spell, the ground at the jumps tracks has become considerably quicker and the official going description at both Catterick and Wincanton are good (good to soft in places) and that has once again reflected in the field sizes with the former hosting a three runner race and the latter four and five runner races.

David doesn't have any runners today, although we will be back with a runner tomorrow when Major Robinson makes the long trip to Wetherby.  Come back then to find out more.

I see that Watford have appointed Roy Hodgson as their new manager following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.  He may be a good choice to keep the side in the Premiership, but I don't think the fans will be expecting fireworks anytime soon!

The German Open snooker gets underway in Berlin this afternoon with Judd Trump the defending champion.  Trump has struck it lucky straight away with a walkover for his first match which was scheduled for this evening.  Mark Williams, Kyren Wilson and Neil Robertson are among the big names playing today with the coverage on Eurosport.

It's not something that I am ever going to have to worry about, but did you know?...In Japan it is common for golfers to purchase 'hole in one insurance' as it is traditional for them to throw a lavish party to celebrate making that shot.  The insurance payout covers the cost of the party, souvenirs for the guests, a tip for the caddy and a donation to the golf course itself.

Why do ducks make great detectives?  They always quack the case.

Why do ducks have tailfeathers?  To cover their buttquacks.
