There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Warwick and Bangor.  Once again, there is a dearth of runners, especially at Bangor where the largest field size is just six.  As I said last week, I know Cheltenham gets underway on Tuesday, but those horses running there would not have been eligible for these races anyway, so the cause of the problem obviously lies elsewhere.

Meanwhile, over in Ireland, where they don't have as many meetings, there are a couple of competitive cards from Limerick and Naas.  Limerick has a Grade 3 race on the card, whilst Naas has two of them, as well as the Leinster National.  No such problems with field sizes over there with the 2m handicap hurdle attracting a field of 25!

There are no runners from the Pond House team today, although a busy day lies ahead tomorrow when we will have seven runners spread across the three jumps meetings at Taunton, Stratford and Plumpton.  Come back in the morning to find out more.

Declarations take place today for day one of the Cheltenham Festival at 10am today and we will be declaring Adagio for the Champion Hurdle as well as Gericault Roque for the Ultima handicap chase, although it is touch and go whether he will get in.

There are six Premiership football matches taking place this afternoon with the pick looking to be Arsenal versus Leicester, whilst in-form Newcastle could give Chelsea something to think about, the same comments could also apply to Aston Villa who travel to West Ham for a battle of the claret and blues.

Only one more week to go and the lights will be going out for the start of the first Grand Prix of the new season in Bahrain.  The teams finished their final test session at the track yesterday and it will be interesting to see how things look come race day.  Testing times can be very misleading with Ferrari and McLaren looking strong, but it would still be a bit of a shock were Mercedes and Red Bull not prominent.
