         Guy Cunningham's Funeral Today

Today the stable has two runners in the Norfolk National at Fakenham, 4.15pm race.  Red Happy carries top weight with Philip Armson on board while Abaya Du Mathan carries 11st 8lb and is number 8 in the race card with Fergus Gillard in the saddle.  Both horses have been in great form of late, Red Happy winning three of his last four starts and finishing second at Ludlow last time.  Those recent runs have been over a much shorter trip than he tackles this afternoon but he did run well in the Devon National over this distance at Exeter.  The ground was much softer that day and he ran really well before not quite seeing out the final couple of furlongs.  It is a much sharper track and better ground today so it gives him every chance of staying today.  Our five year old remains in great form at home despite a busy spell and hopefully he has a good each way chance in this.

Stablemate Abaya Du Mathan has also been running well of late over shorter trips than he tackles today but again he has shown form over three miles in the past.  He seems to have been enjoying the better ground of late and after winning at Ffos Las he ran well just a few days later to finished third at Chepstow last time.  Fingers crossed he will stay the trip and give a good account of himself this afternoon.

In yesterday's action Iron Heart ran okay to finish fifth but did not confirm his promise of his recent second at Chepstow.  That came over 2m3f and maybe the drop back to two miles on a quicker track was not in his favour.  Meanwhile, over at Kempton Lady Reset ran another good race to finish second.  She has now finished in the first two in nine of her last 11 races, flat and jumps.  She is a wonderful tough and consistent mare and I am sure she will be back with her head in front in the not too distant future, whether that be over hurdles or on the flat, she will probably continue to mix between the two codes.

Alongside the jumps fixture at Fakenham today there are also two other meetings over jumps at Ayr and Sedgefield.  There are also flat cards at Lingfield and Wetherby and there is jumping in Ireland at Ballinrobe.

David and Leanne are today both attending the funeral of owner Guy Cunningham who sadly passed away last month.  The Cunningham family have been owners at Pond House for a very long time and Paricolor and Heure De Gloire are the current horses to carry Guy's green, yellow and white silks.  One of my favourite days racing this season was in fact at Cheltenham back in November when Paricolor finished a very close second at odds of 50/1.  We watched the race from the paddock with Guy who was in a wheelchair at the time and there was no one cheering louder in the whole of Prestbury Park than him and even though we did not win, the pleasure he got from that run was a joy to watch and it was a very emotional day.  He loved his horses and loved is racing and I really miss his daily phone calls.  All our thoughts are with his mum, Jane and rest of his family and I am sure everyone will give him a good send off later today.
