There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Fontwell, Uttoxeter and Kelso.  Now, of course, I am a big fan of the jumps, but the programme does seem a bit lopsided.  I thought we were in the middle of the flat season?  Afterall, the Derby takes place next weekend.  Earlier this week there were no jumps cards on Thursday and only a hunter chase meeting on Friday, then today there are three NH cards and people wonder why there are small fields.  Anyway, rant over!  David has two runners today; Morgenstern at Fontwell and Al Roc (pictured above) at Uttoxeter.

Morgenstern contests the 2m5½f handicap chase at 2.39pm.  He has been in decent form of late, finishing a good second at Market Rasen last time.  This longer trip looks sure to suit and he should be thereabouts once again.  Tom Scudamore takes the ride.

Al Roc is our other runner as he contests the valuable 2m4f Clarke Chase at Uttoxeter at 3.31pm.  It is a race run in memory of sir Stanley and Lady Hilda Clarke, who were tremendous patrons of the yard for many years.  Al Roc has been in great form, winning his last two starts and carries a 7lbs penalty for his most recent success at Fakenham.  This is a tougher race, but he has a low weight and is deserving of his place in the line-up.  Philip Armson claims 5lbs off his back.

The Monaco Grand Prix takes place this afternoon and I will be looking forward to watching that on catch up later on, although I may well head to Thruxton (between Salisbury and Andover) where the latest round of the British Touring Car Championship is taking place.  It's not quite the principality of Monaco, but the boss does not pay me enough for that!

His father replied, "Yes, we arson"
