There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newton Abbot and Cartmel, flat fixtures from Nottingham and Ripon and all-weather action from Kempton.  David has one runner today as Morgenstern (pictured above) contests the 2m5f novices' handicap chase at Newton Abbot at 3.50pm.  His profile is a bit in and out, but he did win last month at Stratford and is the only one of these with previous chasing experience.  He may not be a betting proposition, but has the ability to go close with Philip Armson taking 5lbs off his back.

Newton Abbot has always been one of my favourite tracks and with their meetings running throughout the summer, you can usually be assured of some decent weather.  It has a great atmosphere with the crowd a great mix of knowledgeable locals and holiday makers.  It is a shame for organisers and sponsors that today's meeting does not have more runners.

With Epsom getting underway on Friday, declarations are made for the Oaks this morning at 10am and we will then know the full runners and riders for the filly's classic.  John Gosden looks to have a stranglehold on the race with the first two in the ante-post market, headed by Emily Upjohn, the intended mount of Frankie Dettori, who is looking for a fifth success in the race.

Rafael Nadal won a thrilling quarter-final match against Novak Djokovic in the French Open tennis, clinching the match in a fourth set tie-breaker to progress to the semi's.  This must count as one of the Spaniard's finest victories as he has long suffered with injuries.  The pair have met an incredible 59 times and after last night's match there is precious little between them with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 30-29.

Fresh off the back of success in the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull have confirmed that Sergio Perez has been offered a new two year contract with the team.  Perez, who is currently third in the drivers standings has proven to be an ideal number two for the team - good enough to score decent points on a regular basis and able to step-in when Verstappen is not atop the podium.
