It was a good day for the stable yesterday with a winner and a couple of seconds at Worcester.  Nibras Gold ran out a ready victor of the first division of the 2m maiden hurdle on the card under David Noonan for the Value Racing Club.  Handy throughout, he took up the running turning in to the straight and soon had matters firmly under control.  He still showed signs of inexperience on only his second start over hurdles, taking a good look at the last, but looks a nice prospect in the making.  A stayer on the flat, he should get further in time over timber.  It was a glorious, sunny day and there were plenty of happy members present to greet their winner.

American Sniper produced a promising first effort under rules, finishing second in the bumper.  He kept on well having been prominent throughout, but was just collared in the closing stages and looks more than capable of winning something similar.

Iron Heart ran a good race to finish second in the 2m4f handicap hurdle on his first start for the David Pipe Racing Club.  The winner was 11lbs ahead of his mark and in finishing clear of the remainder, he was probably recording a personal best over timber.  His turn does not look to be too far away.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon, although it is a blank day for fans of the jumps.  The action comes on the level at Nottingham, Newmarket, Leicester and Hamilton and on the all-weather at Newcastle.  Unsurprisingly, there are no runners from the Pond House team today.

The final match of the Test cricket series between England and New Zealand gets underway at Headingley this morning with the hosts holding an unassailable 2-0 series lead.  Jimmy Anderson is injured and will be replaced by former Somerset player James Overton.  His twin brother Craig has already represented his country, so they will become the first twins ever to represent England.

There are three Brits through to the quarter finals in the men's and women's events at Eastbourne, sparking high hopes for Wimbledon.  Interestingly, there are rumours flying around that Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu could pair up for the mixed doubles at Wimbledon and that would be a real draw for the crowds.  However, as one of my colleagues asked, what are the chances of the pair of them remaining sound enough to play?!
