We did have a bit of rain during yesterday afternoon at Pond House, although there was nothing measurable in the rain gauge this morning with the heat evaporating it long before it had a chance to get into the ground.  There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Nottingham, Yarmouth, Brighton, Sandown, Doncaster and Ayr and there has obviously been a bit more precipitation up country with Nottingham and Ayr both offering ground that is good/soft in places.

It's day four of our summer sabbatical from the jumps and despite plenty of flat cards, the best of the action looks to come from the other side of the Irish Sea.  They host a jumps card from Sligo and an interesting fixture at Leopardstown which features a Group 3 contest over 1m4f at 6.15pm.  The lightly-raced and unbeaten four year old, Beamish is the likely favourite, although at the prices it may be worth a look at Duke de Sessa who finished fifth in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and could yet improve for his first attempt at this sort of trip.

The racing league gets underway tonight and whilst I am yet to be swayed that racing will ever be a team sport, it is great news that it is receiving terrestrial coverage from ITV.  Hopefully it will help to engage new viewers and encourage the racegoers of tomorrow.

I enjoyed the athletics action from the Commonwealth Games yesterday, especially the success of Eilish McColgan in the 10,000m - a race her mother, Liz, won in 1986 and 1990.  I still remember watching those games, so to see her daughter doing the same thing at the age of 31 is making me feel extremely old!

Day seven of the games sees the action in the pool switch to diving, whilst the road cycling gets underway.

I had an appointment to see my psychic next week, but she just called to cancel.

She said I won’t be able to make it.
