There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Salisbury, Yarmouth, Beverley and Ffos Las and all-weather action from Kempton.  The best of the racing comes from Salisbury and whilst there is not exactly an abundance of runners, they do have an interesting 1m2f Listed contest at 3.30pm.  Frankie Dettori is aboard the likely favourite, Climate on her first start for the Gosden's, although I thought that Rose Of Kildare had been running well after an absence and could get her own way up front under Cieren Fallon.

Meanwhile, over in Ireland, there is a very competitive card from Galway, where all bar one of their eight races has attracted at least 12 runners, with the highlight being a 1m1½f Listed race for fillies and mares.  I see that J P McManus owns the forecast favourite for that race; Didn'thavemuchtodo and it will be interesting to see how she gets on, especially as she was bred by his wife, Noreen.  I am sure they would be thrilled if they can get some black type here.  Mr McManus has far fewer runners on the level, but what he does run, tends to perform well.

There is a bit of a lull in the sporting calendar for a few days this week...no jumps racing, F1 is on it's summer break, it's still the off-season in the NFL and the European Championship athletics don't start until next week.  Mind you, there are some EFL Cup football matches on the menu today as well as some FA Cup qualifiers.  I wonder if any of these 'minnows' will be making an impact in the main competition?

Talking of qualifying, Rangers made it through to the Champions League play-offs by overcoming a two goal, first leg deficit against Union Saint-Gilloise, winning 3-0 at Ibrox to record a 3-2 success on aggregate.
