There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Warwick, a flat fixture from Redcar and all-weather action from Southwell and Newcastle.  David has one runner today as Dindin (pictured above) contests the 2m4f conditional jockeys handicap chase at Warwick at 3.45pm.  A winner over course and distance from this mark earlier in the season, he has also finished a close second here, so clearly goes well at the track.  He has a couple of disappointing efforts to overcome, but he gets weight from all of his rivals and is no forlorn hope if producing one of his better efforts under Philip Armson.

I see that the ex-French top-weight Gold Trip won the Melbourne Cup in the early hours of this morning.  He had run in many of the top races in Europe but had only won once previously.  What a way to double you tally, by landing this massively valuable prize with over £2.5 million for the winner.  James Ferguson's Deauville Legend was fourth netting over £188,000 for connections.  I see 2020 Epsom Derby winner Serpentine finished nearer last than first.  He hasn't won since his Classic success and had only won a maiden previously...clearly not a vintage renewal in retrospect.

There is Champions League football action to look forward to tonight.  Liverpool face Napoli and are already through to the last 16 of the competition with a game to spare.  If they want to top the group and avoid one of the other group winners in the next stage, they are going to need to beat their rivals (who are in great form) by four goals and I don't see that happening, especially on the back of their defeat to Leeds at the weekend.  Spurs are away to Marseille and are just clinging on to the lead in their very tight group - if they slip up tonight, they can be eliminated from the competition.

Mark Selby progressed to the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions snooker last night with a 6-4 win over John Higgins in their group final which was a real match of attrition.  Neil Robertson and Kyren Wilson are among those in action today.

I spent an absolute fortune on a limo for the weekend, only to find that the driver was not included.  I can't believe I spent all that money and had nothing to chauffeur it.
