Today the stable has five runners at Ffos Las, an extra meeting that was put on after the recent abandonments. Moodofthemoment, First Lord Du Cuet, kepagge, New Age Dawning and Barrier Peaks make up our quintet. I am actually writing from home today & yesterday as unfortunately the ‘lurgy’ as finally caught up with me. Thankfully not covid but I don’t feel the best so staying home, trying not to pass it on and doing what I can work wise!!

Moodofthemoment runs in the maiden hurdle at 1.10pm. He is an Irish point to point winner having his second start for the stable and he is a big price today in a competitive looking race. Hopefully he can build on what he did last time at Kempton and he will probably appreciate further in time.

First Lord Du Cuet returns from 571 days off the track to run in the novices limited handicap chase at 1.40pm. This looks a very competitive race and the Racing Post have him at 12/1.  He is a horse I like a lot and he will like conditions but it will be good to get him out, have a good round and come back safe and sound so we can build on it next time. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run okay but it will be a watching brief for me.

New Age Dawning runs in the 2.10pm handicap chase over three miles. He ran nicely behind Eden Du Houx on his season reappearance at the track over short and will appreciate going back up in distance today. The softer the ground the better for him and even though he is one of the outsiders in another competitive race, he has won at the course last season and I think he has a good each way chance.

Kepagge runs in the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 2.40pm. He is very lightly raced in recent times but he made a pleasing comeback run from an absence at Sandown last time. He just Bogor a little tired late on but the track and going will suit and he has been given time since that run so fingers crossed he can put in a good display this afternoon.

Our final runner on the Ffos Las Card in Barrier Peaks in the 3.40pm handicap hurdle. He runs in his first handicap with a tongue tie added and hopefully he can show a bit more today. Tom Scu rides all of our runners this afternoon.

It looked tough for us to get a winner on paper before racing yesterday and so it proved. Heure De Gloire ran a gallant race from the front to finish second and giving nearly two stone to the winner. She bounced back to form and is capable of winning again soon. American Sniper probably ran a bit below form compared to recent efforts and finished third at Taunton. While I wasn’t necessarily expecting him to win against the Nicholls horse I thought he would at least finish second and give that rival a good run for his money. He is fine this morning which is the main thing and I am sure he is better than he was able to show yesterday.
The worst and saddest news for the stable and owners Caroline and Hadeel came at Lingfield as we lost Red Lion Lad yesterday. He was in the process of running his best ever race and was challenging the leader when stumbling at the third last fence. Fergus Gillard immediately pulled him up and dismounted but a sadly suffered a fatal heart attack. An empty stable is one of the worst feelings in the world and he will be sadly missed as he was a lovely laid back character in the yard and was a good boy to ride. RIP big fella.

Tonight we have our staff Christmas meal at a local restaurant in Wellington. While I am a doubtful runner we still have nearly 50 people coming so i’m sure it will be a great night!!

The Christmas alphabet is almost identical to the standard English alphabet…
Except it has Noel!! I just want a to take this opportunity to wish my mum a very happy birthday - i hope you have a lovely day Angela and have a good day everyone else to!
