Bashful Boy at Market Rasen

Today we have two runners on the all-weather at Lingfield, Bashful Boy and Borntobealeader.  They both run in the same race, the 1m4f handicap at 2.20pm and they are both having their first starts on the flat for us.  Both have run on the level before but this is the first time we have tried them.  Bashful Boy runs from a mark of 75 with Rob Hornby in the saddle.  Our seven year old has won one race and finished second three times from just six starts on the all-weather before with his win coming in Ireland at Dundalk over this trip off a mark of 72.  This is his first race on the flat for 727 days so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.  He hasn’t been enjoying the soft ground over hurdles as late so David thought he might enjoy a go on the all-weather.

Borntobealeader is having his first start for us on the flat and the last time he was in action on the level was when he won a Goodwood seller and we bought him in the subsequent auction.  He has taken to hurdling well and won at Ludlow in November but he disappointed at Exeter after when he did not appreciate the heavy going.  He has had a wind operation since and will go back hurdling in the spring when the ground improves.  Our runners are the outsiders in the field today but with any luck they can run their races.  John Egan rides Borntobealeader.

Hopefully there are two jumps meetings on today at Doncaster and Huntingdon.  Doncaster definitely goes ahead but Huntingdon does have to pass a morning inspection.  We have runners declared for Cheltenham and Uttoxeter tomorrow and while there are no anticipated problems at the latter, Cheltenham are inspecting at 12 noon today.  Conditions at the track did improve throughout Thursday but there still remains some areas of concern with the frost.  I did hear a rumour that if they have to abandon the meeting then they may look to run the whole card on Sunday, this would be a first in this country but a great idea! There are lots of runners up at Doncaster today and David Noonan is up there in action while Fergus Gillard and Philip Armson are at Huntingdon all being well.  There is also flat action at Wolverhampton and in Ireland at Dundalk.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Bristol Hippodrome on Wednesday evening where I went to watch ‘Cher’ the musical with my mum.  I thought the cast and choreography were fantastic and I highly recommend going to see it if you get the opportunity.

There is a good football match this evening as well with Manchester City at home to Arsenal in the FA Cup Fourth round.  I wouldn’t really like to call the result of this one, Man City perhaps haven’t been at their brilliant best of late but they are a class team and will not want to lose at home to Arsenal.  Arsenal have been in terrific form but this will be a stern test.

What happens if someone slaps you at high frequency?  It Hertz!  Happy Friday!
