Anglers Crag runs at Wetherby Today!

Today we have runners at two jumps meetings, Wetherby and Hereford.  Anglers Crag runs in the 4.55pm handicap chase on the card over three miles and Jack Tudor rides.  It has not quite gone to plan for him so far this season since switching to fences but last time out at Chepstow was a step back in the right direction.  He came from an unpromising position at one stage to running on well at the end to be a never nearer third.  He put in a much better display of jumping as well and we have added cheek pieces on as well today which hopefully will just sharpen him up.  He is definitely handicapped to run well by his home work but we just need him to put it all together on the track.  Hopefully today will be his day!  It looks a fairly competitive race for the grade with 16 runners and we are about 17/2 in the betting.

We have two runners at Hereford, Duc De Beauchene and Abaya Du Mathan.  Duc De Beauchene runs in the 1.50pm conditional jockeys handicap hurdle over three miles with Fergus Gillard on board.  He probably ran his best race of the season to date at Wincanton last time and he stayed on well in first time blinkers to be third.  He wears them again this afternoon and if they have the same effect then he should run well.  There are six runners and we are about third best in the betting.  It does however seem like there is not much between the front three in the betting and it looks quite open but a repeat of his last run should not see him far away.

Abaya Du Mathan runs in the 4.10pm handicap chase over 2m5f with Gearoid Harney on board.  I see he is the outsider of the field but he ran okay at the track before and he will probably run his usual honest race again.  He is just short of £20,000 in prize money won this season so it would be fantastic for him to pick up a little more today and break through this barrier.

It is a busy day on the racing front as alongside the two jumps meetings there is flat action at Chelmsford and Southwell and in Ireland they race over the jumps at Clonmel and on the flat at Bellewstown.

Pepsiwithacap ran really well on her stable debut to be third. She was leading with one furlong to go, but unfortunately two riders passed her in the last few seconds. It was a great start for the yard and hopefully she will give us all some fun on the flat and over hurdles later on in the year.

Last night in the football, Manchester United beat Brentford 1-0.In the other match West Ham were beated by Newcastle 5-1. There are no football matches this evening but I am looking forward to the start of the Masters Golf at Augusta.  It is golf’s first Major of the year and the world’s best players have made their annual pilgrimage to one of the sport’s most iconic venues.  Play starts at 1pm British time and 88 players will be trying to win the famous green jacket by Sunday.  Rory McIlroy is one of the favourites and I am hoping he can win on his 15th attempt at winning this famous event.  If he manages to do it he will be only the sixth man ever to complete the Golf Grand Slam.  In my opinion Scottie Scheffler may be his biggest danger but there is a quality line up of players and it should be a great few days.

Two years ago, my doctor told me I was going deaf…I haven’t heard from him since!  Have a good day!
