Texard Runs Today at Exeter!

Today we just have the one runner at Exeter this evening, Texard.  We were due to have two but decided to make Vision De Maine a non-runner in the bumper with the course drying out.  He is a lovely big four year old that we were hoping to get a run into before a summer holiday but David has now decided that will be it until the autumn for our Irish point to point winner.

Texard runs in the 6.05pm handicap chase over two miles with Gearoid Harney on board.  This is Gearoid’s first ride on Texard who has been struggling to recapture his form of last summer of late.  He has dropped to a very handy mark and we are hoping a first time visor may have the desired effect but he is hard to recommend on recent runs.  The ability is definitely there, the course and ground will suit and there are only five runners but we are the outsider of the field and hopefully he can improve on his last couple of efforts and give us something to build on for next time.  They have plenty of runners at Exeter this evening which is nice to see with two races that have 18 runners each, a 14 runners field and a 13 runner field.  I am sure they will get a big crowd in attendance as well.

There is an afternoon jumps fixture at Fontwell and it is of course the first day of the Scottish National meeting at Ayr.  On the flat they race at Newbury and Bath while in Ireland they race on the flat at Cork and over jumps at Kilbeggan.  We would have liked to have been heading to Scotland today with Only the Bold in the Scottish National but with the drying ground we did not want to risk him and he has gone home for his summer holidays.  Jack Tudor looks to have an excellent chance of winning the big race on Kitty’s Delight.

The Craven stakes at Newmarket yesterday was won by Indestructible for trainer Karl Burke and jockey Kevin Stott for Amo Racing while the Godolphin favourite Mysterious Night finished last.  While I don’t really follow the flat I have noticed that Kevin Stott riding for Amo Racing have formed a very potent partnership of late and the winners are flying in.  Kevin is a very good jockey and with his partner Megan Nicholls acting as is agent they seem to be a formidable team and are names to follow this flat season.

Last night in the football Manchester United got beaten by Sevilla 3-0. Tonight Arsenal play Southampton in a crucial Premier League match.  You feel it is a must win match for the Gunners after their recent run of form has opened the door for Manchester City in the title race.  It is top of the league against bottom of the league and while things do not look good for the Saints, with relegation looking likely, they will still be desperate for three points and so it should be a good match with both teams needing the win. I expect Arsenal to get the victory but it may not be easy!

Me         “ Have you heard of Murphy’s law?”

Friend   “Yes”

Me         “What is it?”

Friend   “If something can go wrong, it will go wrong.”

Me         “Have you heard of Cole’s law?”

Wife      “No, what is it?”

Me         “Thinly sliced cabbage and mayo!”

Happy Friday!
