Last Quarter runs at Worcester Today

Today we have two runners at Worcester, Last Quarter and Call Her Clever and both are ridden by Jack Tudor.  Last Quarter runs in the 2m7f handicap chase at 2.15pm.  He is a hurdles winner who has just had the four starts over fences, running well on two of those starts and not quite so well on the other two!  It was a good effort at Ffos Las last time to be fourth and a repeat of that run should see him go close in this.  The trouble is with him that you don't always know which Last Quarter will turn up!  On the way he goes at home he is definitely better than his handicap mark of 109 but sometimes at the races he does not always choose to put his best foot forwards!  We do all sorts with him at home to keep him mentally in a good place, he goes out with the hounds and goes up onto Culmstock beacon a couple of times a week to enjoy the views!  He is about 6/1 third choice in the betting, the track should suit and I don't think he will mind the better ground and so fingers crossed he is on his best behaviour this afternoon!

Call Her Clever makes her racecourse debut in the bumper at 2.50pm in the colours of the Value Racing Club.  She was due to run at Ludlow last week put we pulled her out when the track received a lot of rain on race day.  The going is perfect for her today and she is about a 6/1 chance in the betting.  She has had an away day gallop to get some experience but today is her first day at school.  She has done everything we have asked of her at home and shows a very willing attitude.  We used to train her mum, Pure Genius and won races with her and so it would be lovely if we could do the same with her offspring.  Whatever the outcome today both we and her will learn a lot more for the future.

As well as racing at Worcester this afternoon there is jump race action at Perth and Newton Abbot and it is nice they are finally back racing there after their last two fixtures were abandoned due to waterlogging.  They have plenty of runners throughout the card including a competitive hunter chase at 4.55pm.  I was just having a quick look at the race and I thought Minimalistic might be worth a small bet.  He is a pretty good west country point to pointer and while his form under rules to date is a little uninspiring, he has ability and his jockey Josh Newman is in good form.  With a clear round of jumping I don't think he will be far away.

On the flat it is the first day of the Dante meeting at York and they also race at Bath.  In Ireland they have flat racing at Cork.  The Musidora stakes is the feature race on the York card at 3.35pm and the Sir Michael Stoute trained Infinite Cosmos ridden by Richard Kingscote is the 13/8 favourite and looks like the one they all have to beat.

Tonight in the football we have the second Champions League semi-final match, the second leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid.  It is 1-1 after the first leg so it promises to be a cracking match with all to play for.

Someone asked my grandad what he still found attractive about my grandma.  He said "her teeth are like stars.  They come out at night!"  Have a good day!
