Only Fools wins at Fontwell!
It was fantastic to start the new week with a winner, thanks to Only Fools bolting up at Fontwell. She is an admirably consistent mare and despite a rare below par effort last time she bounced right back to form to win nicely yesterday under Jack Tudor. She isn’t the biggest, but has a big heart and handled the ground with ease. We changed tactics to a front running ride having felt the muddling pace at Plumpton last time did not help her chances last time and she enjoyed the first circuit of the race in an un-contested lead. She was joined and passed with a circuit to go but that probably helped more as Jack was able to sit in behind and let that one carry her along before a great jump at the second last hurdle took her back to the lead again. She went clear approaching the last and Jack kept her up to her work up the hill but it was a comfortable success. There were a few members of the Racing Club in attendance and so it was a great afternoon for them all. Jockey Jack Tudor went on the have a double on the day winning the lucky last for trainer Sam Drinkwater.
Today we have three runners at two different meetings, Worldwide Fury, Mr Tambourine Man and Paricolor. Worldwide Fury heads to Wetherby for the final race on the card, a bumper at 4.45pm and Jack Tudor rides. Our grey won his only start in an Irish point to point at Port Rush last year and we have taken our time with him. He is more of a long term project, but he goes nicely at home and the track and ground will suit. He is about 4/1 third best in the betting and hopefully he can run a nice race on stable debut.
Mr Tambourine Man runs in the opening race on the Exeter card, the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 2.00pm. We team up with Harry Cobden again this afternoon and he rides both of our horses there. Our seven year old is a three time hurdle winner, but has been a little out of sorts in recent starts. He returns from a break and wind surgery today so hopefully that can spark a revival. While the ground is probably going to be a little softer than ideal, the handicapper has given him a chance and fresh maybe the best time to catch him.
Paricolor runs in the 3.35pm handicap hurdle over 2m5f. This is his first run since Fontwell on Boxing day where he finished second and a repeat of that run should see him go close in this. He is joint 7/2 favourite in the betting and the track and ground will suit. He is a multiple winner who hasn’t got his head in front for a while but I hope today might be his day.
Alongside the two jumps meetings today there is an all-weather flat card at Wolverhampton as well.
What is the opposite of a croissant?
A happy uncle!
Have a great Tuesday!
