It's another day of no jumps racing and plenty of rain forecast for today in the South West, some say up to a month's worth of train! But the flat fixtures are at Salisbury, Haydock, Lingfield, Newbury and Wolverhampton. In Ireland, they also have no jumps action but the flat action is at Clonmel. The stable has no runners today.
With the jump racing having it's quiet period before waiting for the season to kick off in October, meant that regular jumps jockey Sean Bowen looked for other opportunities on the flat. He actually holds a joint license and he rode for usual boss Olly Murphy at Bath, taking on the flat jockeys including young apprentice and the similar name of Sean D Bowen. The apprentice was the one out of the two to come out on top after steering the James Owen trained Maritime Lady to win won nicely, with jumps jockey Sean Bowen finishing 6th on his mount.
Salisbury opens its doors for the Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at 3:50pm which is a Group 3 contest and Eve Johnson Houghton will try to win for the second year in a row with her homebred Betty Clover, following the success on Juniper Berries in 2023, Georgia Dobie takes the ride.
Team GB are continuing to impress as they come away with 13 medals in total on Wednesday. Great Britain's most decorated Paralympian Sarah Storey won her 18th career gold in the C5 women's time trial. I don't think we will get near China in the medal table as they currently sit with 62 gold medals going into day 8, but GB are doing extremely well and sitting second in the table with 33 golds and 74 medals in total.
In the cricket, in the Vitality Blast Northamptonshire Steelbacks are up against Somerset today which takes place at 6:30pm at County Ground in Northampton.
What did the nut say to the other nut in a game of tag?
Imma Cashew!
Happy Thursday!
