I had a day out at Cheltenham yesterday and it was a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the day with plenty of drama, great winners and stories behind them. Kopek Des Bordes got favourite backers off to a great start in the Supreme while Majborough's jumping let him down in the Arkle. Lossiemouth showed her class again in the mares while the Champion hurdle had the most drama of the day. As a racing fan, I wanted to see a great race between the top horses but racing is not always like that! Constitution Hill fell at the top of the hill and everyone thought Brighterdaysahead was then set for her big day. She didn't run her best however and State Man was set to win easily before crashing out at the last. This left the door open for Golden Ace who was a great winner for the West Country. An unexpected result, but it just shows that sometimes you take a chance and you get rewarded. I am sure they will be celebrating well on Exmoor for quite sometime!
King Turgeon travelled and jumped well for a long way but eventually pulled up and the plan is to have his wind checked again. Similar comments apply to Gericault Roque who ran well for a long way but didn't quite stay as well as expected. Both horses have returned safe and sound which is the main thing and there will be other days for them.
There is another great day of action to look forward to at Cheltenham today but we do not have any runners. We were of course very much looking forward to running Windbeneathmywings in the Champion Bumper but sadly a late setback ruled him out of the race. He is doing well and after a period of rest he will be back on the track which is the main thing. I suspect this race will be won by one of the Willie Mullins team this afternoon. The first race, The Turners looks set to be a good race, probably between The New Lion and Final Demand while Ballyburn is my winner of the Brown Advisory novices chase. I think Jonbon will will the Arkle and it will be another good day of action with no doubt a bit more drama thrown in as well!
I believe it was snowing in Cheltenham this morning but nothing to worry about with regards to the racing, we have sunshine at Pond House! There was a good crowd there yesterday although they say numbers were a little down on last year but it felt like there were plenty of people there to me! There were also several celebs and I saw Sir Alex Ferguson, Jonny Evans and Jordan Pickford so being a football fan I thought that was great!
There is also jumps action at Huntingdon today and all-weather flat cards at Newcastle and Wolverhampton.
Enjoy Day 2 of Cheltenham Everybody!
