There are three jumps meetings today at Kelso, Fontwell and Uttoxeter and we have two runners at the latter. Grand Claremont and Show Your Hand are our representatives at Uttoxeter and they are both ridden by Rian Corcoran. They are not until the final two races on the card and Grand Claremont runs in the 5.12pm handicap chase over three miles. This will be just his second start in Britain and he finished sixth at the track on debut over 2m4f. He is an eight time winner in France at shorter trips than three miles but on account of the ground we have stepped him up in trip today. He ideally wants softer ground and so while the ground remains good we thought he was worth a try at this trip. He was a little outpaced last time but today should suit better. He has dropped a few pounds in the weights which will help and he is another with a likeable attitude and I expect him to take a step forward from last time. There are eight runners and it is a fairly competitive little race but I hope we have a good each way chance.
Show Your Hand runs in the concluding bumper at 5.47pm. He is a horse we have always liked at home and while we chucked him in at the deep end for his debut, returned to calmer waters he was a little unlucky to get pipped at the post at Exeter last time and finish second. He is in good form at home and the track and ground will suit. This is likely to be his last run before a summer break and he will go hurdling in the autumn and I think he has a cracking chance. Rian rides for the first time, taking five pounds off and while a competitive six runner field, I hope he will take a lot of beating.
There are no flat meetings in Britain today but we have good action at the Curragh with some cracking Group races to look forward to. Minnie Hauk is one of my favourite flat horses and she is favourite for the Tattersalls Gold Cup at 3.55pm while English 1,000 Guineas winner True Love is favourite to win the Irish 1,000 Guineas at 4.30pm. Ryan Moore wasn't on board last time but swaps back from Precise this time, I wonder if the roles will be reversed again?! They should be fascinating races to watch.
There is point to point action at Bratton Down this afternoon as we count down to the final few fixtures of the season. James Shaw is in action and I will let you know if he has any success tomorrow!
It is the final day of the Premier League football season this afternoon, all the teams are in action and all the games kick off at 4pm. We of course know Arsenal are Champions but there is still one relegation spot to be decided. Spurs and West Ham fans will all be on tender hooks but it is Spurs with a two point advantage over the Hammers and a point would be enough to ensure their safety. Tottenham are at home to Everton while West Ham are at home to Leeds.
Somerset are in Vitality Blast action again today and after winning their first match at home on Friday, they are looking to win away today against the Warwickshire Bears. That game starts at 3.30pm.
Apparently, keeping tropical fish at home has a calming effect on the brain.
Must be all the indoor fins.
Have a lovely Sunday!
