There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with action from Chepstow, Lingfield and Musselburgh, while there are a couple of jumps cards from Cheltenham and Fontwell. Lingfield get the wooden spoon today with just £30,000 up for grabs across their seven race card. Something has to be done about this poor prize money - the trouble is, as long as they keep getting owners and trainers running for these sums, the tracks will continue to try their luck.

The stable has no runners today although Tom Scudamore heads off to Fontwell for just one ride for his brother in the 6.25pm race and it looks to have sound claims.

There was an interesting claimer on the all-weather at Lingfield yesterday with the first, second and fifth all claimed after the race.  The impressive winner, Flowers Of Venus looks a good buy at £10,000 having won five of his seven starts on the all-weather - the only trouble is the he has a rating of 87 so he is not going to be the easiest to place.  I think there should be more sellers and claimers, particularly over further - not only do they provide a bit of interest, some of the horses will embark on jumping careers while the auctions generate revenue for the courses.

Over at Towcester yesterday, Jack Andrews rode a good finish to win aboard Riddlestown.  He is 6ft4in tall and looked very tidy - he should have a word with David who is a similar height and was a similar weight...I had the dubious pleasure of legging him up a few times!

There is a hunter chase meeting at Cheltenham this evening.  It is a fixture that is well worth a visit, even if it is just to see some of the fashions on display (and I use the term 'fashion' very loosely!).

What an insult for Attheraces presenter Robert Cooper yesterday when jockey Martin Harley referred to him as 'Thommo'.  Come to think of it, I am not sure who would be the more upset, Bob or Derek Thomspon!

I don't want my mates to know that I won a few quid on United last night after they beat Celta Vigo 1-0.  I would never live it down!  Guess where I will be at 8pm?  My beloved West Ham play Spurs tonight and I may be a bit biased, but 7/1 about the Hammers looks a big price to me.

I see that Marquane Fellaini wanted to know from the referee why he was sent off last week.  He must know as everybody who watched it knows...some of these footballers don't seem to have any brains.  Maybe he can't afford a television so he hasn't been able to watch what he did!  Speaking of which...anger - it's all the rage!
