There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat fixtures from Haydock, Yarmouth, Hamilton and Kempton as well as a jumps card from Worcester.  David runs Tis What It Is, Three Star General and Baby Sherlock at Wocester, while Work contests the two mile handicap on the level at Kempton at 9.10pm.  Tis What It Is contests the conditional jockeys and amateur riders' race at 3.20pm - our four year old has only run once and shaped promisingly when third at Ffos Las.  He should have learned plenty from that experience and looks to hold each way claims at likely odds of around 10/1.  Meanwhile, Three Star General (pictured above) looks to have one to beat in the novices' hurdle at 4.20pm - the slight drop back in trip should not inconvenience and Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Baby Sherlock runs in the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 5.20pm and he starts life in handicaps from a mark of 96.  He showed some ability in bumpers and I would not be at all surprised to see him go well.

Over at Kempton, Work is partnered by Pat Dobbs in the staying handicap.  She was not beaten at all far on her last start on the flat and she has the ability to go well.  It looks like a day of fair chances, let's hope that at least one of them goes in.

I see that legendary northern trainer Mick Easterby's trademark green jacket made £500 for charity.  It had over 100,000 hits on the internet and York racecourse are the proud new owners.  I bet they will be looking for some his secrets in the pockets (or even some money hidden away in the lining)!  I bet if it could talk it would be able to tell some incredible stories!

I always found it amazing that horses could have a different rating on the all-weather compared to the turf.  Today Cotton Club is rated a 12lbs better animal on the all-weather.  He capitalised on his lower grass rating by winning at Salisbury yesterday.

Even with only 10 men, France managed to beat England 3-2 last night.  The French made our defense look slow and it was a very young French side.  We were just victorious in the under 20's World Cup - why on earth are we not playing some of these guys with an eye to the future?  The current England side is not going to win any major tournaments based on this evidence.

Christiano Ronaldo has been accused of tax evasion to the tune of £12.9 million - a drop in the ocean when you consider that he earned £72 million last year - it is certainly a problem I would like to have!

A friend of mine found a gold coin in a lump of earth - lucky sod!  Have a nice day...
