There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with all of the action coming on the flat.  Indeed, there is no jump racing now until Monday - why the powers that be think that it is a good idea not to have any jumping at a time when most people are able to go racing is a mystery to me.  Anyway, today's action comes from Doncaster, Chester, Sandown and Salisbury.  It is day three of the St Leger meeting from Doncaster today and there are three Group races on the card including the Flying Childers which looks to be a very good race.  With the Karl Burke team in good order it is not difficult to see Havana Grey taking a lot of beating.  He appreciates the rain softened ground and ran well in a Group One at Deauville last time out...it sounds as though I am talking myself into a wager.

I see that actor Nathaniel Parker is the mystery guest lined up to take his turn behind the microphone in the trainers' commentary competition at Newmarket tomorrow week.  Nat is a regular in our marquee at the Cheltenham Festival and is always one of the most vociferous hecklers when I take to the microphone.  He once told me to speak up...not many people who know me say that!  Anyway, I told all our guests that Inspector Lindley was there and he should be able to solve all the races for them.  That seemed to go down well and he even recounted the tale on his web page.

I was pleased to see Peter Hedger have a winner at Epsom yesterday.  I remember him when he used to deliver the fruit and veg to the Warner holiday camps.  Peter is a very astute man who has landed a gamble or two down the years.

Everton looked awful last night as they lost 3-0 against Atalanta and the scoreline could have been a lot worse if the winners took advantage of all their opportunities.  Despite crowd trouble, Arsenal still managed to get a result and my little double came up...I hope a few of you also had an investment.  How can 20,000 people turn up without tickets and expect to get in to see the match?  The police were nearly as busy as the Cologne defence!

If you don't play very well at golf the obvious thing to do is to sack your caddie.  It is always the caddie's fault and the latest player to follow suit is Jason Day.  He follows Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson and it has done their form the world of good...just me being sarcastic.
