Weekend Jottings!

It's been a while since I have had cause to question the wisdom of the race planning committee, although the logic of two jumps meetings on a Sunday and no flat cards puzzles me.  Yesterday there were four flat meetings and a jumps card - why can they not find a better balance?  Anyway, the two National Hunt fixtures are from Kelso and Uttoxeter and stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up a couple of outside rides at Uttoxeter.

Sometimes you do have to feel sorry for these trainers.  Earlier in the week Newmarket trainer Hugo Palmer was fined and he was not even at the meeting where the fineable incident took place!  One of his representatives forgot to put the weight cloth on Dragon Mountain.  The horse finished third but was disqualified and the trainer fined.  I wouldn't have wanted to be the staff member responsible.

I was talking about horses selling for in excess of £2 million at the Tattersalls sales earlier in the week, well that looked like a drop in the ocean compared to the £4 million for the Galileo filly that was knocked down to Godolphin.  I would struggle to sleep at night with a horse of that value.  In fact, I would probably be too scared to let it out of the stable in case it stood on a stone!  Just imagine the pressure on trainer and jockey when she reaches the gallops for the first time.

I see the Leeds Rhinos have stripped off for a raunchy calendar.  They revealed starlet Jack Walker who is just 18, in fact they had to check that he was actually allowed to get his kit off.  I have seen the calendar and it is quite revealing...it is in a good cause though.

Bidding has reopened for the hosting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.  It does seem odd that the sole candidate, Birmingham made a mess of things.  The games chiefs did not say what was wrong, but surely if you were the only candidate you would think they would get the decision?

People say that I have no willpower.  That is not true at all, I gave up smoking loads of times!  Have a nice weekend...
