There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ludlow and Haydock as well as two all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Newcastle.  David has runners at both National Hunt fixtures with Eamon An Cnoic running at Haydock and Red Square Revival and Abracadabra Sivola going to Ludlow.  Eamon An Cnoic (pictured above) contests the 1.20pm race at Haydock - he was a progressive handicap hurdler last season but fell on his chasing debut last time.  He has been intensively schooled at home since and is a course winner - this is a trappy little contest with not much to choose between the entire field on official figures.  A clear round is first priority but he should go well under Tom Scu.

Over at Ludlow, Red Square Revival runs in the 2m4f novices' handicap chase at 1.00pm.  Our six year old has been in good form this term, winning at Plumpton and looks to have a good chance under David Noonan.  Meanwhile, Abracadabra Sivola contests the staying handicap chase at 2.05pm.  It is another very competitive race but he stays really well and is back on his last winning mark of 129.

I bet there were some good pictures taken at Lingfield yesterday.  The conclusion to the 3.00pm race saw a driving finish featuring three greys.  It looked great on television, so I'm sure the photographers will have some great shots.  Everyone loves a grey don't they?

What is the world coming to?  Elite Racing's Group One winning filly Marsha went through the sales ring at Tattersalls yesterday and was knocked down to Mr Magnier for 6 million guineas.  It is getting a bit like footballers wages...where will it all end?

England lost the second Ashes test against the Australians but at least they put up a good fight.  The main problem is quite a simple one...Australia are better than us.  England's batsmen need to post a big score to put them under pressure, then we will see if they have any bottle.

I see the Russian Olympic Committee have been hit with an £11 million fine and only invited Russian athletes will be allowed to take part in next year's Winter Olympics.  At last, the IOC have got something right!  You all know my feelings on drugs cheats by now, anything less than a lifetime ban from the sport is too soft.

So, I went to the off-licence last night and said, "Tenants?".  "No" said the cashier, "We own the place"!  Have a nice day...
