There is a quiet day ahead of us with the abandonment of Fontwell yesterday due to the heavy downpours, leaving us with just one jumps card from Sedgefield.  Consequently there are no runners from the Pond House team, while jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan look as though they will also be taking an unscheduled day off.  Not too heavy on the Yorkshire puddings gentlemen!

Talking of jockeys, I see that Sam Twiston-Davies has said that it is the greatest career in the world.  The one thing he doesn't like though is all the driving and he was having a good moan about all the roadworks.  Sam is only a whipper-snapper, but he really doesn't know he is born.  I remember what the roads were like 40 years ago when there was no M5 connecting the west country.  I used to have to drive through Taunton and Bridgwater to get to Pontins in Weston-Super-Mare where I had to play in table tennis exhibitions...it used to take 4 hours on the A38!

Mrs Barnes will be thrilled to hear that there are a couple of FA Cup matches taking place this afternoon.  Cardiff take on Manchester City and Chelsea play Newcastle.  City are 3/10 and Chelsea are 4/9 - not very original selections, but I can't see them getting beating, so a nice little double to give me some interest.  Mrs Barnes keeps saying, "You don't have to have a bet!"  She clearly just doesn't understand.

We can't beat the Australian's 5-0 in the one day cricket series having lost to the hosts in Adelaide, but at least England have won the series overall.  I would rather it had been the Ashes as I am not too keen on these one day knockabouts.  Even so, any win over the Aussie's is to be enjoyed!
