Hopefully the weather has taken a turn for the better.  Indeed, there are four race meetings scheduled for this afternoon and there is not an inspection in sight.  There are jumps cards from Catterick and Fontwell as well as all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Kempton.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads up to Catterick for just one ride for his brother - let's hope it goes well otherwise it is going to prove to be a long journey home.

If the weather forecasters have it right, it looks as though we are going to be in for some wet weather at next week's Cheltenham Festival.  The ground looks as though it will be more testing than usual so if you are thinking of having an ante-post wager, make sure that your selection handles some cut in the ground.  Talking of Cheltenham, I see that an air ambulance is to be stationed at the course for the four days of the Festival - let's hope that it is not needed.

What an amazing story.  I see that Cheveley Park Stud owners David and Patricia Thompson have bought Triumph Hurdle hope Redicean.  They bred him and sold him initially for £50,000...I bet he cost a good deal more to buy back.

I was saddened to hear that the seafood restaurant on Great Yarmouth's North Quay is to close.  It was one of the late, great Sir Henry Cecil's favourite haunts and he would often drop in there before going to Yarmouth races.  I can confirm that it is a great place, especially if you like crayfish tails.  I popped in a few times when I was at Potters holiday camp nearby.

There should be an entertaining football match this evening between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus.  It is on BT Sport at 7.45pm and Spurs look to be worth a bet at odds of 5/4.  Manchester City should also win but they can't be backed at 1/7.

Serena Williams has said that she is struggling for form after 14 months away from the tennis courts to give birth to her child.  I watched her practicing and she still seems to hit the ball a lot harder than her opponents.  Having won 23 Grand Slams she must surely be planning a comeback for love rather than money?

Thought for the day...if women ruled the world there would be no wars...just a lot of jealous countries not talking to each other!
