There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ludlow, Exeter and Huntingdon as well as flat cards from Yarmouth and Brighton.  It is also the first day of the Punchestown Festival in Ireland with over £½ million in prize money up for grabs.  David has two runners at Exeter today; Tis What It Is and Whitley Neill (pictured above).  Tis What It Is contests the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 1.40pm and amateur jockey Rex Dingle takes 7lbs off his back - he showed glimpses of ability in bumpers and has run okay on good/soft ground in the past, but he would need to improve on his most recent efforts to figure here.  Whitley Neill runs in the maiden hurdle at 2.45pm and is another that needs to improve on what he has shown thus far.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Meanwhile, over in Ireland it is still looking as though the Irish trainers' championship could go down to the wire.  The first day of Punchestown should be fascinating with Mullins and Elliott dominating the card with 18 and 23 runners respectively.  Willie Mullins has three favourites and Gordon none so the standings could be a lot closer at the end of day one.  I bet the rest of the Irish trainers are sick of the sight of them.  Gordon did say that he was going to run everything he had that was fit and it looks as though he wasn't kidding.

I was saddened to see that one of the old Pond House stable stars Olympian had died at the age of 31.  In 1993 he won the Imperial Cup and Coral Cup in the space of five days and became the first horse to pick up the £50,000 bonus from Sunderlands bookmakers for completing the double.  Martin and David are the only two trainers to have pulled off such a feat since it was introduced in 1992 with Blowing Wind and Gaspara also victorious.  I love Olympian - can you tell that I backed him?!

There is an interesting football match tonight as Liverpool play Roma in the first leg of the Champion's League semi-final.  The best price about Liverpool is 4/7 - let's hope that they get a good result.  Cardiff visit Derby and that is covered on Sky Sports.  Cardiff look worth a wager at 19/10.

I see that former Hull owner Adam Pearson is trying to buy crisis club Sunderland.  How can a club like that be in such trouble?  Sunderland have some of the best fans in the and with the amount of support they get, they should be (and deserve to be) a Premier side.

A man was arrested for stealing helium balloons.  Police held him for a while before letting him go!  Have a nice day...
