There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Thirsk, Musselburgh, Kempton and Bath, while there is a card over the sticks at Worcester.  David runs three at Worcester; Kalifourchon, Irish Prince and Delface.  Kalifourchon contests the 2m7f handicap chase a 2.40pm - it is a competitive contest with 17 runners.  He is a four time winner over hurdles but is yet to hit the mark over fences and would need to improve on his most recent efforts to figure under David Noonan.  Irish Prince runs in the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 5.10pm - he has hinted at ability in a few of his starts to date and the application of blinkers and better ground could help to bring about some improvement.  Delface (pictured above) goes in the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at 5.40pm - he looks to be on a reasonable mark, although his wins have come on softish ground so that would be a slight concern.  Kieron Edgar is in the saddle.

Many happy returns to former flat trainer Reg Akehurst who is 89 today.  Reg was a really astute trainer who knew just how to lay one out for a gamble.  I played a bit of golf with Reg many years ago and he was quite handy at that too!

I see that trainer Emma Owen was fined £290 for adding a mesh pad after jockey Shane Kelly had weighed out aboard Lutine Charlie at Brighton yesterday.  The jockey weighed in 3 pounds heavy and the trainer was 290 pounds lighter!

What a thrilling finish to the football yesterday evening as England went through on penalties (yes, I did say penalties!) so it was a great result.  It wasn't the best match and the ref had a stinker.  Colombia's Wilmar Barrios should have been sent off for a head butt but escaped with just a yellow card.  What is the point of the VAR system if you are not going to make proper use of it?  It is also a mystery to me why the Colombian's were appealing about the penalty awarded to England after Harry Kane was rugby tackled in the box.  They spent three minutes giving him aggro, while some of the players scuffed up the penalty spot...I thought it was disgusting behaviour and they were clearly just there for a punch up.  Next up is Sweden on Saturday - I can't see it being a high scoring affair.

England's cricketers were annihilated by India in the first T20 match at Old Trafford yesterday.  Let's bring the Aussie's back - they were nowhere near as good as India!

I can't say that I am upset to see the back of Maria Sharapova after she lost in the first round of Wimbledon.  As you will all know by now, I am completely opposed to allowing drugs cheats to participate and believe they should all be handed lifetime bans.

Talking of Wimbledon, never date a tennis player...love means nothing to them!  Keep smiling...
