It's the second day of the Hennessy meeting at Newbury today and there is plenty of cracking action to help warm us up a bit!  There are also jumps meetings at Musselburgh (where following an early morning inspection, they will take a look again to see if the frost has come out of the ground), Doncaster and Wolverhampton on the flat.  The stable has five runners at Newbury this afternoon, Quinte du Chatelet, Dynaste, No Secrets, Matuhi and Bygones Sovereign.  The big one at Newbury is the novices' chase that Dynaste contests - our grey was very impressive on his debut over fences at Cheltenham and he looks to be one of the most promising novice chasers in the country.  The ground at Newbury is likely to be very testing but at least it should be protected from the frost with the groundstaff covering the course with ground sheets overnight.

We have an interesting video from the gallops this morning providing an unusual angle that gives you a real feel for the horses in action on the gallops.  Here you will see Cellist (left, ridden by Sam Welton) and Off The Wall (right, Mikey Ennis) working upsides during first lot.  Cellist is a three year old gelding who should make up into a nice juvenile hurdler this term.  He is currently for sale and more details can be found by clicking here.

I was watching the racing from Taunton yesterday and was surprised by the seller.  I wasn't surprised by the result, it was won by Gordon Elliott's 132 rated favourite Oscar Hill, but I was surprised to see there was no bid for the winner, while the second horse, Take Of Shocs was subject to a claim.  New connections will be hoping that the handicapper doesn't put the runner-up up by too much - finishing second to a 132 rated horse in a non-handicap while you are rated 103 is never a good thing!

A headline in the paper that caught my eye was "Punters Should Profit From Pipe Opener".  Actually they were talking about darts player Justin Pipe who is competing in The Players Championship at Butlins in Minehead.  There seems to be Pipe's everywhere...most of mine are frozen!

I see that former England cricket star Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff makes his boxing debut tonight and takes on Richard Dawson.  At the age of 34 should you really turn your hand to boxing?  His opponent is a 23 year old - let's just hope that he can't throw a punch!  I would hate to see Freddie get hurt.
