The treadmill is another piece of apparatus used to give the horses an assortment of exercises. It is used not only for physical benefit however, but also to keep them interested and amused in their work.
The treadmill is an important training aid, and we endeavour to put every horse on it. From this you can assess at close quarters how each horse moves and uses itself, and decide which muscles need enhancing.
The treadmill is a moving conveyor belt, set on an angle which encourages the horses to use different muscle groups (and thus enhance muscle tone) to the ones normally used in walking exercises. It is also particularly beneficial to the occasional horse that is invariably a little stiff in the mornings - the treadmill is useful in loosening them up before galloping.#
We have two treadmills at Pond House.
