It's a big day for stable (and I use the word advisedly!) amateur Mikey Ennis as he makes his debut on the front cover of the Racing Post this morning. Mikey will ride leading fancy Sona Sasta in the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow on Saturday and with the horse at the foot of the weights, it is conceivable that he will have to ride at 9-7 (after his claim). The article looks in depth at Mikey's Christmas diet of fruit and nuts, a bit of salad and sushi...I hope that it will prove worth the effort. I remember Peter Scudamore having to ride at a very light weight at Haydock many years ago and the previous evening I kept getting the waiter at our table to bring the sweet trolley past...I don't think Scu even twigged on!
The meeting at Ayr goes ahead today after it passed an early morning inspection so at least we have some jumps action to look forward to, meanwhile there are two all-weather flat meetings at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. Talking of Wolverhampton, I thought that the Stewards at the track were harsh on poor old Tom Greenwood. They fined him £650 for changing his boots after weighing out and then weighing back in 2lbs overweight. His mount Dane Cottage (a 66/1 chance) finished a well beaten sixth...oh and did I mention that Greenwood is an amateur jockey?! I wonder how many other sports fine their amateurs that sort of money?

There were plenty of people that said that Harry Redknapp was mad when he suggested that he could keep QPR in the Premiership. Well, they took their first major step towards staying up yesterday when they beat Chelsea 1-0 with Shaun Wright-Phillips scoring his first goal since 2010. They are still bottom of the league but are now level on points with Reading and I wouldn't be at all surprised if 'Arry can get his team to build on this momentum.
Apparently Inter Milan are interested in signing Frank Lampard from Chelsea. Maybe Frank has upset the owner of the club? Chelsea must be completely mad to let him go - I don't think a team like Milan would be interested in signing a has-been!
