I guess we should be grateful for small mercies and the good news is that Wolverhampton gets the go-ahead after passing a 6.30am inspection - that is saying something when I am glad of an all-weather card being on, but it was a bit boring yesterday when there was no racing taking place at all.  The news is not so good from Kempton where they have abandoned early following further snow and frost overnight...I guess they should call it 'almost all weather' racing?!

You know it is cold when the temperatures on the coast in Devon reach freezing and that is exactly what has happened.  Having said that, I did manage to get 18 holes of golf in at Churston yesterday - I don't suppose there are that many courses that could claim to be open during these conditions.

I really do hope that things start to warm up as there is some good jumping action to look forward to, including a meeting at Cheltenham on Saturday.  Local trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies said that it is snowing up near the track and there are freezing temperatures forecast so things aren't looking good at this stage.  Perhaps flat jockey Jamie Spencer has the right idea?  The former champion is currently riding in India - I don't suppose they have to worry about too many inspections over there.  Apparently Spencer won aboard a horse aptly named Snow Blast.  Meanwhile trainers Gay Kelleway and Reg Hollinshead have runners at Cagnes-Sur-Mer on the south coast of France, maybe I should suggest a road trip to David?!

Will Sir Alex Ferguson ever stop moaning about the referees?  He said that Manchester United should have been awarded a penalty against Spurs yesterday...I'm not so sure.  For me, Tottenham were by far the better team and absolutely battered United.  The funny thing is that Sir Alex never mentioned the hand ball that they got away with against West Ham in the Cup...he never saw that one - amazing!

There should be a good match on television tonight (Sky, 8pm) between Southampton and Everton.  The new Saints manager Pochettino cannot speak English which is probably just as well as I would imagine that the fans will be having a pop at the Argentinian!

Golfer: "That can't be my ball, it's too old"
Caddy: "It's been a long time since we teed off!"
