It's my birthday (and I'll cry if I want to - you would cry too if you were as old as me!).  I went out for a nice meal with my wife Jane, Martin and Carol on Thursday evening and we had a lovely time...I keep reminding Martin that I will never be as old as him and as you can see from the picture above, I've still got it (whatever it may be?!).

Anyway, there are two meetings to look forward to this afternoon after Fontwell were forced to abandon.  Wolverhampton is left to carry the torch on these shores while there is a very good card in Ireland at Leopardstown.  The Wolverhampton meeting is another card of 'jumpers bumpers' and the prize money is surprisingly good with a minimum of £4,000 on offer (for the maiden).

Following his defection from yesterday's Argento Chase, it looks as though ante-post Gold Cup favourite Bobs Worth will go straight to the Festival.  There is a race that might suit on 9th February but trainer Nicky Henderson says that it is too close the big one.  It seems to me that it will be a relatively long lay-off for the horse, perhaps they will try to get a racecourse gallop into him?

I wonder what snooker legend Steve Davis makes of the Betfair Shootout - it's a one frame shoot-out in which the players have 15 seconds to play their shots.  It has often take 'The Nugget' longer than that to scratch his ear!  Can you imagine Eddie Charlton or Cliff Thorburn playing that sort of format - they would need 15 minutes each shot rather than 15 seconds!  I would think that Ronnie O'Sullivan or Jimmy White have thought this up!

There is some good football on this afternoon including a local derby between Brentford and Chelsea in the Cup as well as Leeds versus Spurs...I reckon there could be some yellow cards.

A cartoonist was found dead in his home...at present details are sketchy!  Have a nice weekend.
