The stable had a winner at Ascot on Saturday when Red Sherlock made it two winners from two starts with success in the bumper. The ground looked to be pretty awful, but although he was made to pull out all the stops by winning pointer The Sky Farmer, he stayed on in determined fahion to lead close home. It will certainly be interesting to see what David does with him next as he has some very nice horses in the bumper division this season. On the same card you had to be impressed by Cue Card but I am not convinced by his Cheltenham Festival prospects. I just wonder whether his jumping might find him out come the big occasion?

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon, two over the sticks at Carlisle and Southwell as well as an all-weather flat meeting at Wolverhampton. We make the long trip up to Southwell with just one runner. They always say that you should watch out for jockeys with just one ride at a meeting...I wonder if the same rings true of a trainer?!

I see that Derek Thompson will be covering the Cheltenham Festival for the BBC on Radio 5. Someone once said to me that Thommo has a face that suits radio and while I would have to agree with that senitment, I would also like to point out that I do like him and it is good that he will be there for the four day jumps spectacular. He is a real character and a great enthusiast for our sport...I will just have to make sure I turn down the volume on my radio!

I was very surprised to see Arsenal extend their manager's contract by another two years. They have now gone eight years without winning any silverware, which for a top four club seems like a very long time to me. Wenger has undoubtedly been a very good manager down the years but looks like he has lost the plot to me...or maybe the Gunners shouldn't compete in the FA Cup - it sounds obvious, but you should always field your best team!

I haven't spoken to my wife in years...I don't like to interrupt her!
