Today there are just two meetings, both over the sticks at Huntingdon and Sedgefield. The stable has no runners but it is still a very busy time with just over a week to go until Cheltenham. We do have some local action in the point to point field however with a few of our jockeys in action at Kingston St Mary, near Taunton. The head lads son young Kieren Buckley is having his second ride. Kieren is still at school but rides out at Pond House at weekends, good luck Kieren!
I see the Curragh are puting together two Grand National style fences on their training grounds. MCP has had them on our gallops for years and obviuosly David has continued to use them. It certainly helps, especially when they are seeing them for the first time. Talking about obstacles, I see Newton Abbot will be using a new padded hurdle designed toreduce injuries to horses and jockeys. Mind you it did cost them £20,000 for the new 5 hurdles. I bet Managing Director Pat Masterson will be at every hurdle to make sure they are not getting broken! I remember Pat losing a golf tee and asking the Pro if it had been handed in...only joking!
I think it must be one of the best quotes ever. When Unsinkable Boxer won at the Festival, a reporter asked MCP when he thought he would win. MCP replied "last September!". I would say he he was probably the best horse ever to go up the Pond House gallops and we have had a few good ones go up the hill. He was a machine!
What a football match to look forward to this afternoon. Spurs play Arsenal at 4pm. Arsenal have got to keep Gareth Bale quiet and keep the ball off of his left foot!
