Amigo (pictured above) made the long trip up to Ayr worthwhile yesterday with success in the three mile handicap hurdle under Tom Scudamore.  Our six year old gelding saw the trip out well and while the ground was drying all the time, there was still enough ease in it to suit our ex-French recruit who recorded our 101st victory of the season.  I was interested to see that the Racing Post analysts suggested there was a race at Haydock next month which might suit him - perhaps they should be doing the entries?!

It looks like being a busy day ahead with no less than six fixtures to keep us entertained - four on the level at Newbury, Thirsk, Nottingham and Wolverhampton as well as two jumps cards at Ayr and Bangor.  It is day two of the Scottish National meeting at Ayr and the stable is back up there with five runners this afternoon, including two in the feature race, Problema Tic and Big Occasion.  Problema Tic steps up in trip and could run a big race if seeing out the distance, while Midlands National winner Big Occasion has a nice weight when you take amateur jockey Mikey Ennis 7lbs claim into account.  Our other runners are Shotavodka in the Scottish Champion Hurdle, His Excellency and Buddy Bolero.

I see that poor old A P McCoy is not going to be able to ride at Punchestown next week after it was revealed that the champion jockey has broken some ribs in his fall at Cheltenham earlier in the week.  It just goes to show what these jockeys are made of that he was hoping to come back so quickly - he must obviously have been in quite some discomfort with broken ribs.  I am sure that a number of jockeys will have been on the phone to trainers trying to pick up some nice spare rides.  I remember a number of years ago Peter Scudamore was able to pass a medical despite a broken wrist by showing the doctor his good wrist...our Scu was a bit cunning!

I enjoyed Mick Channon's televsision interview the other day - he said 'I really hope Hannon wins the Derby, not through goodwill...I want him to retire!'.  Mick always did have a good sense of humour.

My little treble for the weekend footie action will be Manchester United at 2/7 (sorry Tony & Eddie!), Norwich at 4/5 and Doncaster at 8/13.

So, I said to the gym instructor 'can you teach me to do the splits?'

He said, 'How flexible are you?'

I said, 'I can't make Tuesday's!'  Have a nice day!
