Oddjob winning at Chepstow
David has three runners this afternoon at Uttoxeter. Smooth Classic is looking to build on his promising second last time at Plumpton while Bygones Sovereign has to bounce back from a fall last time out. He was the winner of a competitive event at Exeter the time before so finger crossed the fall will not have affected his confidence too much. He is a good jumper and has been schooling nicely at home again. Oddjob is th final runner of the day. He appreciated the better ground when winning at Chepstow last time so we are hoping he can perform the same again today. Tom Scu is at Uttoxeter to ride all three. There are also five other meetings on today so there is lots of action to watch for everybody! There are four flat meetings at Newmarket, Doncaster, Goodwood and Thirsk and two jumps cards, at Uttoxeter as we have mentioned and also Hexham.
It is a cracking card at Newmarket. The 3.50pm race is the Group 1 2,000 Guineas and there is £400,000 up for grabs in prize moeny. I am not sure about the prize money but whoever wins the race will be worth a fortune in breeding terms anyway! Mind you, it is good they have got 13 runners. The race that looks disappointing this afternoon is the Group 2 Jockey Club stakes. There is £100,000 in prize money for this race and only four runners. If you finish last you get £5,300, not bad work if you can get it! It just goes to show you that lots of prize money does not always guarantee lots of runners.
In the football, Wigan go to West Brom in their most important match of the season. They need to win to close the gap on Newcastle who are five points in front of them. In fact there are three teams on 37 points so it all could go down to the last games. Sunderland should get out by beating Stoke on Monday night.
What about two German teams playing at Wembley on the 25th May. Bayern Munich takes on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final. I know the final is booked a long time ago but surely it would make sense to change the venue and play ona neutral ground in Germany? Just an idea for the future if two clubs from the same country get to the final again!
My football treble. Fulham 3/4, Spurs 1/2, West Hame 11/8.
A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it. (Bob Hope) Have a nice day.
