Purple N Gold - winning debut over hurdles
David had a nice winner at Uttoxeter yesterday courtesy of Purple 'N Gold in the novice hurdle. He won first time out over hurdles in a three way photo finish. Our four year old jumped well in the main and despite getting tired in the final 100 yards battled on bravely to hold on. Keith and Lynne Webb own him and they used to have horses with MCP and they went racing with David yesterday. They interviewed David after the race and it looked like he was at a pop concert! I think they celebrated well and enjoyed their day! High Ville ran okay but could not follow up his win from last week. He was beaten by Salpierre with AP at his strongest. The pair pulled 50 lengths clear of the third so it was probably not too bad a run from our gelding.
Meanwhile at Worcester, our first runner Basil Fawlty unfortunately fell but we are pleased to report he is okay this morning. Paddy Brennan rode him, a change of jockey as unfortunately Tom Scu was involved in a small car accident on the way from Uttoxeter to Worcester. The winner of this race was Whistling Senator again ridden by champ AP. In fact I am sure he actually carried the horse home! Thankfully Tom is alright and he made it to the track for the rest of his rides. Prime Location ran well and finished second and Laustra Bad also ran okay but just faded out of things from the 2nd last to finish sixth.
Today we have five flat cards at Leicester, Hamilton, Brighton, Epsom and Doncaster. David does not have any runners but we do have one runner on the flat tomorrow at Newbury, Togiak. With all this hot weather the going is very quick ground at all tracks. In fact at Brighton the going is firm. They have been watering but as soon as the water touches the burnt out grass it dries out. I know my golf course is putting tons of water on our greens. They looks and play great but the rest of the course is brown!
England are 10/11 to win the second Ashes test. Surely our batsmen cannot bat as badly again?! I also think the Ausies played above themselves so I hope not too many Aussies are reading this!
The British Open golf also starts today at Muirfield. The winner will take home prize money of £945,000, but not as much as Andy Murray for winning Wimbledon. The course will be very bouncey and there will probably be some unlucky bounces. My selections are Justin Rose and Graham McDowell. These two plyers are used to playing on these type of courses and I think they have a great chance.
