It’s a busy day on the level with no less than six meetings taking place at Sandown, Yarmouth, Bath, Epsom, Doncaster and Brighton.  I would have thought with Brighton, Sandown and Epsom being in such close proximity to each other, the tracks are going to be short on punters – those punters would probably have gone to each track if they were on different days so I don’t understand the logic in holding them all today.

The ground looked slow at Worcester yesterday with only one race where the time was comparable with the standard.  One of the races was slower than the standard time by nearly one and a half minutes.  It’s amazing how quickly a little bit of rain can change the going so quickly.  The stable had two non-runners yesterday afternoon after they failed to eat up.

I did like Barry Geraghty’s comments about AP McCoy.  The jockey said “with Jimmy bowing out you are the only one left on the seniors’ tour!”  I was talking with AP only last week and the champ is looking as fit as a fiddle and I reckon he good be riding for a good few seasons yet.  He doesn’t want to train horses, so I guess being champion jockey is a good role for him.

For once I found myself agreeing with Sebastian Coe.  Anyone involved in drugs should be banned from their respective sport.  However, they shouldn’t stop there – ban the coaches, managers and athletes – those people close to the sportsmen must know what is going on.  Life bans would make potential drugs cheats think twice.

I was taking a look through Ryan Giggs’ record and was amazed to see that he has won 34 trophies.  That is a record that I can never see being beaten…13 Premierships and 4 FA Cups among them.  Don’t forget he is still playing at the top level for Man Utd so could add to that tally yet.

My paper only has 6 pages about the Royal baby today so the hysteria is clearly starting to die down.  I was delighted that they decided to call him George – that is my real name!
