There is a busy day of racing ahead with no fewer than seven meetings taking place with six on the flat at Goodwood, Newmarket, Thirsk, Doncaster, Hamilton and Lingfield as well as a jumps card at our local track Newton Abbot. There has been quite a bit of rain overnight in the west country so the ground could certainly have eased a little bit. The stable has three runners - Shoegazer, Qulinton and Ladyvie. Qulinton (above, centre, blue colours) has fallen to a handy hurdles mark of 122 (he has won from 135 over fences) and he ran creditably last time out over course and distance.
Your chance to be involved in a recent 19 length winner!...
I was interested to see that David is advertising recent facile Stratford winner Royal Peak as for sale. A winner of a novices' handicap hurdle by 19 lengths on Thursday 1st August, Royal Peak (pictured right) is fit and ready to run again and will be entered in further races as soon as National Hunt racing recommences. Still only lightly raced and with the prospect of further improvement, this is your chance to own a winner at the bargain price of £10,000 to stay in the yard. At that sort of price, I don't suppose he will be for sale for very long - if you are interested, be quick to call our office on 01884 840715
I see that Hereford are hosting a seven race arab meeting today. It seems ludicrous to think that the course can survive hosting events like this, yet cannot host National Hunt racing. One of today's races is worth £1,000 and jockey Mr S A Walker is the man to follow. Just to let you know that most off-course bookmakers will not take a bet on the arab racing, even though the Racing Post have priced up every race!
I thought that Richard Hughes was at his brilliant best at Goodwood yesterday aboard Montiridge and Wentworth. There is no better jockey in the world at holding one up and producing them to win on the line. He won by 3/4 length aboard Wentworth and still had time to pat the three year old down the neck as they crossed the line. As one punter said to me, "Hughes could win on a rocking horse" and I think he has a point.
Talking of brilliant jockeys, A P McCoy went to Bangor for one ride yesterday and it duly obliged...I keep going on about jockeys with just one ride at a meeting and the old adage was proved correct again.

Tiger Woods shot an impressive round of 61 (9 under par) yesterday - it was like watching the Tiger of old. He is probably the greatest golfer the world has ever seen, it is just a shame that we have not seen so much of this brilliance in recent years. I know that plenty of golfers have shot low scores in this Bridgestone tournament, but a round of 61 is just different strawberries. Have a nice weekend...
